This was written in April of 2000 for a dear friend. After trying multiple times to conceive a child, her heart was broken. In His perfect timing, God brought the gift of a another mother’s sacrifice to her arms. As it happens, God’s timing is perfect. A beautiful son was laid in her arms through the blessing of adoption. As part of her inner circle, I was privileged to see this miracle unfold. Today he is a young man, still a blessing, and a strong testament of faithfulness, even in the darkest moments of our pain.
Because You Asked for Him
Teardrops fell like morning dew
Across the desert sands…
“My God, my God, why must we bear
These empty arms and hands?”
Each time I heard your anguished soul,
My heart was pierced with pain.
For I knew the plans I had for you;
No journey is e’er in vain.
Blessings fell along your path
No human eyes could see.
But eyes turned towards the Father’s heart
Saw each gift I gave to thee.
One angel caught in jars of clay
Each tear this mother cried.
Another wrote the father’s prayer
And placed them side by side.
I sent one more to comfort you,
To strengthen day by day
Then gave you friends to hold you up,
To help along the way.
Be patient child, walk faithfully.
Allow My will to flow.
Bow humbly down before My throne.
Allow your trust to grow.
Stand steadfast in My righteousness
Remember all My ways.
Each step you take, remind yourself
Of the promise that I gave.
Lo, I am with you always.
I will love you without end.
My oils I’ll pour upon your heart.
It’s brokenness I shall mend.
And now the time has come to pass,
My plan for you complete.
The golden strand of this tapestry.
Now lays before my feet.
Placed lovingly within My trust by one
Who knows birth’s pain,
To give to two whose hearts know well
The depths of sorrow’s stain.
I swaddle him in softest silk, then I
Kissed his gray-blue eyes.
I rocked him gently through the night.
Heaven’s Host sang lullabies.
When morning came, I sent him down
Upon an angel’s wing.
Then whispered, “He’s here”, within your hearts.
Because you asked for him.
